1988 is an official scenario based on the 1988 United States Presidential Election.
Gameplay[edit | edit source]
Bush (R) and Dukakis (D) are both playable, and unlike in real life, a victory as Dukakis is entirely within reach if Dukakis' real-life mistakes are avoided. The campaign focuses on the continuation of Reaganite policies, the country's relationship with the Soviet Union, and the modernization of campaigning, including the concept of running an aggressive campaign. It is one of the easier scenarios in the original game.
The game begins with a significant lead for Dukakis, and Bush is encouraged to attack in order to gain ground. As Dukakis gets hammered during the campaign, Bush can develop a lead, although while playing as Dukakis, it is possible to maintain a polling lead.
Legacy[edit | edit source]
The mod provided the basis for the 1988 Gary Hart mod, which included a picture of Michael Dukakis in its introduction while playing as Gary Hart and closely mirrored the official scenario's gameplay.
