This mod is a historical international mod focusing on the 2002 Dutch general election, which is considered to be one of the most dramatic elections in Dutch history due to the assassination of Pim Fortuyn. Currently, the playable parties are the Labour Party (PvdA), lead by Ad Melkert, and Pim Fortuyn List (LPF), lead by Pim Fortuyn, with the Christian Democratic Appeal (CDA), lead by Jan Peter Balkenende, and People's Party for Freedom and Democracy (VVD), lead by Hans Dijkstal, being planned to be implemented in the future.
Gameplay and features[edit | edit source]
2002NL revolves around the 2002 Dutch election to the House of Representatives. The main issues surrounding the election include the infrastructure, the social policy of Wim Kok's Purple cabinet, multiculturalism, the economy, and waiting lists in health services.
The mod sees a return of the Coalition mechanic introduced in the 2025 Netherlands mod, along with the d'Hondt method for allocating votes and chart system.
The LPF and PvdA routes feature a dynamic list of questions that change depending on Fortuyn's stance on immigration and the Islam and Melkert's reaction on said stances respectively. Should either lead candidate take too hardline of a stance, Fortuyn will be assassinated, leading to the player to lose the election.
Fortuyn does not start off with a party and can choose to either join Liveable Netherlands (LN), as in real life, or immediately create his own party without joining LN. If the player chooses the latter, they can choose one of four unique names and logos for Fortuyn's party, including the historical Pim Fortuyn List.
Creation process[edit | edit source]
The mod was launched on July 17, 2023, and made to follow up the team's previous mod, 2025 Netherlands. Due to time constraints, the mod was released with LPF as the only playable party due to time constraints, with CDA, PvdA, and VVD promised later down the line.
On November 22, 2023, the day of the Dutch general election, the PvdA route was added to the mod, this was announced in an accompanying Reddit post made by Zim titled "Ad'tje voor de Sfeer", in which Zim once again noted that the team would be releasing the mod gradually due to time constraints.
Launch and reception[edit | edit source]
Like its predecessor, 2002 Netherlands was well received by the community at launch for its accuracy and how it adapted the format of The Campaign Trail to fit the Dutch election system. Some players struggled with the LPF route, however, believing it to be intentionally impossible to win.
